  • City Museum.
    Alsina St. 412, 1st Floor. Permanent expositions on different aspects of Buenos Aires’ life. It also manages the San Telmo Fair in Plaza Dorrego, on weekends. Open: every day, from 11 AM to 7 PM, except Saturday, (2 PM to 8 PM).
  • "Enrique Larreta" Municipal Museum of Spanish Art
    Juramento St 2291, Belgrano. Housed in a 1870 villa, this museum displays the vast private collection of Enrique Larreta, an Argentine writer. It consist mainly of painting, religious artifacts, altars and furniture of the colonial era and of Spanish origin. Closed on thursdays, open from 3 PM to 7.45 PM. Guided visits in English, French, Italian or German should be arranged beforehand. Call: 4783-2640 or 4784-4040.
  • "Isaac Fernandez Blanco" Museum of Spanish-America Art.
    Suipacha St 1422. Set in a magnificent house, this is the largest collection of colonial art in Buenos Aires. Its silverware section is particularly impressive. Open: Tue to Sun, from 3 PM to 8 PM. Guided visits: Phone beforehand, 4393-6318. (English, French). Guided visits in Spanish. Sat. and Sun. at 3.30 PM and 5.30 PM.
  • Museum of Modern Art
    Corrientes Ave. 1530 9th floor and San Juan St. 350. Dedicated to avant-garde expressions in painting, engraving and sculpture. In its collection there are works of Mattisse, Utrillo, Renoir, Picasso, Dali, Miro and of many Argentine masters. Open: Tue to Sun, from 4 PM to 8 PM. Phone beforehand 4374-9426 and 4374-4796.
  • "Eduardo Sivori" Art Museum
    Junin St 1930 and Corrientes Av. 1530; floors 7th and 8th. Dedicated exclusively to argentine artists, contemporary and of the nineteen century. Open every day from 4 PM to 8 PM.
  • "Jose Hernandez" Museum of Argentine Popular Motifs
    Libertador Av. 2373. This is the widest and most complete collection of folkloric art in Argentina. Its rooms are dedicated to indian, colonial and "gaucho" artifacts. Open Monday to Friday, from 10 AM to 8 PM. Saturday and Sunday, from 4 PM to 8 PM. Guided visits should be arranged beforehad. Call: 4802-9967.
  • National Museum of Fine Arts
    Libertador Ave. 1437. This is Argentina's foremost art collection -more than 300 pieces on permanent exhibition-. Mainly dedicated to Argentine painters of the XIX and XX century. Some of its 34 halls are dedicated to different European schools, ranging from the XV century Florentine masters to the contemporary. Open Tuesday to Sunday. Guided visits every day at 7 PM in spanish.
  • National Historical Museum
    Defensa St.1600. Divided into different stages of the history of Argentina, each of them has a hall: Discovery, Conquest, Jesuit Missions, Veceroyship, English Invasion, Emancipation and Independence War. Housed in the villa that gives Lezama Park its name, in San Telmo. Open Thu. to Sun. from 2 PM to 6 PM. For visit guided call 4307-1182.
